Each year, RAFT conducts Innovation and Math Institutes for educators who are committed to bringing the benefits of hands-on learning approaches to their students.

RAFT's Innovation Institute came about because RAFT members wanted to learn the secrets behind the creative activities they found at RAFT. Innovators "think outside the box" to put creative ideas into action. RAFT Innovation Institute Fellows are selected based on demonstrating a high level of interest and aptitude for hands-on immersive instruction. Thanks to generous sponsorships from Rambus and Agilent, they receive cash and RAFT gift cards to use for developing hands-on educational activities, and participate in a variety of RAFT creative and instructional programs throughout the year.

Math Institute Fellowships are awarded to educators who may not have specific math credentials in hands-on approaches and build both aptitude and confidence. Math Fellows workshops bring new ways of teaching math to students who may not respond to traditional "book learning."

In 2011, we also will be launching a Science Institute for members. RAFT Institutes take place at our San Jose and Redwood City locations.

"I really feel so encouraged and hopeful about changing the face of education in America today after spending 2 days with all of you and all of the participants. On a more pragmatic level, I'm coming home with a wonderful bag of ideas for the coming year." – RAFT Institute Fellow

In their own words:

"I attended RAFT's Innovation Institute this summer in San Jose - what a blast! The activities kept my wheels turning (how can I use this idea in class...what if I did this, instead of...)!

Congratulations to these fine educators! They will be outstanding Ambassadors for RAFT and innovative hands-on learning approaches.

In their own words:

"All subjects, grade levels, cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds of students benefit from a teacher's innovation and the freedom to use their own creativity in hands on learning. This is far more successful than teaching to a student's weakness."

Congratulations to these fine educators! They will be outstanding Ambassadors for RAFT and hands-on math education.
